Type C Waterproofing: Sprüth Magers Art Gallery, London

Contractor: 3 Interiors

Products: Type C Waterproofing, Cavity Drain membrane

The Building

The Building, located on Grafton Street in Mayfair, London, is home to the Sprüth Magers Art Gallery – the London location of one of Germany’s leading, contemporary galleries. Occupied by the gallery since 2007, the building has since fallen into disrepair and recently underwent a large-scale renovation with a large Type C Waterproofing element to restore it to its former, 19th-century glory.

The Problem

The building has many earth-retaining, soft masonry arches, which meant the structure was particularly prone to water ingress and deterioration. The state of the building was no longer a suitable environment for displaying world-renowned pieces of art and sculpture.

The Type C Waterproofing membranes

Before any renovation work could be carried out, the Advanced Basements team worked alongside the main contractor and architect to design and deliver a considered waterproof membrane scheme. The solution we devised brought together an array of Newton Type C cavity drain membrane features to provide a space that will now be fully protected against water ingress for many years to come.
