Cellar Waterproofing Conversion: A Family home in Farnham

Client: Domestic Homeowner – cellar waterproofing

Brief: To renovate an existing damp cellar into a usable teenagers media room

We worked directly with the homeowners to develop a Cellar waterproofing strategy and provide extensive renovations to an existing basement in Farnham that was affected by longstanding dampness issues and general deterioration.  The unloved existing cellar was generally an unpleasant place to be, with limited use.  Working closely with the homeowner we set out to help them achieve the ultimate aim of turning the unused cellar into a spacious playroom.

To improve the layout and make the most of the available space for the client we undertook structural alterations including installing a new concrete floor slab, removing a wall, installing a new RSJ steel beam and closing off an existing coal chute.

Ahead of the conversion of the cellar, a fully guaranteed Cavity Drain Membrane waterproofing system was installed throughout the basement area, incorporating a sump and pump system to ensure a dry internal environment that conforms to the British Standard BS8102 – Grade 3 Habitable space.

We are proud to have helped take the project from start to finish by working tightly to the clients initial brief, liaising with other trades where required and installing high level finishes, including a new ceiling with spotlighting, bespoke Oak staircase with glass balustrade, feature lighting built into the stairs and upgrading the ventilation to the space all combining to allow us to handover a fully future-proofed space ready for redecoration.
